DEATH/BUR: Norhaa parish reg.; FHL 423753; Bk. 6; p. 253; #4. Gives age as 70; lived with Niels Tannerup Jensen as a pensioner; names spelt only here with K. Cf. letters from daughter Maren and son Mads to their sister Else K., Mar and Apr 1889 (see V.C.Keeler, Some Christensens, pp. 311-12).
CHILDREN'S SURNAMES: The surname Christensen which appears on various family group sheets, TIB cards, IGI entries, etc., is incorrect for all but Christen, who is the son of another man. All children of this marriage were christened Andersen (including the daughters). Daughter Else later adopted the American practice of using the father's patronym as family name.

Edward Metcalf of this Parish and Mary Waslin of this Parish, Married inthis
Church by Banns This 23 December 1832 By me Wm Theary Curate. Thismarriage
was solemnized between us: John Edward Metcalf and Mary Waslin (x) hermark In
the Presense of: John Bradbury and Anthony Simpson." Certified copyin
possession of the researchers. Also found by George/Lucile Tate in1973.

OCCUPATION: Many sources note John Edward's craft in England as cabinetmaker.
(See children's birth records). Lucile C. Tate Notes (in an AncestralFile
submission) that his occupation in Utah was that of farmer andmillwright.
Millwright and cabinet maker are the samething.

EMIGRATION: Shipping Record: Ellen Maria;;;;FHL, SLC, UT; In the 1970s,John
Laing found this record. Copies of this record are in the possessionof
researchers. A record, apparently recording bookings and payments tosail on
the Ellen Maria, notes the following details: On 3 Dec 1852 theseMetcalf's
are listed: James [sic] E. Metcalf, Cabinet Maker, age 40; Mary, age 42;Jane
Ann, age 19; George T.[a son of John E's brother George Thomas who haddied in
1842], age 15; John E., age 14; Anthony, age 9; James age 6; Eliza, age2. An
acknowledgement is listed as being sent on Jan. 3rd. and an address isgiven
as Old Gas Works, Humgate, York. Whether they were living there at thetime
or had a church contact with whom they were coordinating is undetermined,but
a deposit of L11.00 on "Balance paid ticket No. 32" appears. The EllenMaria
ship's log lists these same individuals noting the additional informationthat
their destination was Salt Lake City and that they left Liverpool on 11Jan
1853 and arrived in New Orleans Port, 7 March1853.
