16. Christen Christensen (C8)

BIRTH/CHRISTENING: Ydby parish records (FHL 053030, Bk. 2, 209a, top) give only the date on which the home christening was publicized in church.
MARRIAGE: Ydby parish records (FHL 053032, Bk. 4, p. 131, #2).
DEATH/BURIAL: Ibid., Bk. 4, p. 196, # 5. Age at death, 43.
ORDINANCES: B and E TIB Manti #6601, Bk. A, p. 193 (FHL 1059927).

17. Maren Christensdatter (C9)

BIRTH/CHRISTENING: Ydby parish records (FHL 053030, Bk. 2, 209a, just under husband [1] entry) give only the date on which christening was publicized in church. The date is a litte unclear; comparison with another 11 (p. 210a) shows 11 to be correct. Father is listed as Christen SVEIGAARD (from the farm name). VCK sheet gives birthdate as 28 May 1747 (her mother's); VCK chart
gives 29 Jul 1789 (incorrect).
MARRIAGES: (1) see note on Christen; (2) to Niels Christian Jensen, Ydby parish records (FHL 053032, Bk. 5, p. 109, #3). Here she is listed as widow of Christen Christensen; she is given in marriage by her brother Anders Christian Christensen. Her age, 43; Niels', 31. This marriage ca. 11 mos. after first
husband's death.
DEATH/BURIAL: Ydby parish records (FHL 053033, Bk. 7, p. 289, #6); gives patronym with masculine suffix (only time). Maren is listed as spouse of Niels (2) and daughter of Christen Andersen of Svejgaard, where she was born. The absence of reference to Christen Christensen (1) and ignorance of her second marriage seems to be the reason that her death record had not previously been
discovered.
ORDINANCES: B and E TIB Manti #6821, Bk. A, p. 200 (FHL 1059930), where birthplace is given as Flarup; only birthyear is given, and B as 1880 rather than 1888. Work initiated by Ane Jensen Christensen, friend (C.C.'s 2nd wife). I have left B as 1888, since the VCK sheet derives from the L.M.C. Christensen temple book and since the date then matches her husband's and is close to her E.

19. Mariane Christine Elizabeth Christensdatter (C11)

BIRTH/CHRISTENING : Skive parish records (FHL 54002, Bk. 4, p. 199, #28). Indicates home christening by parish priest 15 Oct, confirmation in church 14 Nov. Father: Christen Essko; mother, Pouline Kaarsgaard; Anders Hasselberg's wife, Giortou__ Christensdatter Kaarsgaard carried the baby at christening. This might be her mother's sister, in which case we would then know her father's name (Christen Kaarsgaard). I copied the entry; poss. check other participants (Laust Juuls' daughter, Inger Sophie, etc.) VCK sheet incorrectly gives Gettrup as place of birth.
NAME: Her father's surname Eskov is not used for her in marriage, death, or in her children's birth entries; her own birth record has only her given names.
DEATH/BURIAL: Gettrup parish records (FHL 053056, Bk. 8, p. 196). Gives place of birth, father's name (Christen Eskow) and professio (provinsator?), and her age at death (68).

See Orum parish reg.; FHL 053079; Bk. 2; p. 51v (birth); and ibid.; p. 53v-54r (mother's
public absolution). But since all other references associate our Christen with Kjallerup, this identification is unlikely.
MARRIAGE: Jannerup parish reg.; FHL 053064; Bk. 2; p. 34. Engaged at her father's home in Forby, Hundborg parish, 10 Jul 1795; md. in contiguous Jannerup parish church 13 Aug. He is from Kjallerup.

28. Thomas Metcalf

LEGEND: All source notes are arranged in the same order, using sevenfields:
!TAG: the title of record; years covered in record; vol., call no. orcode,
etc., including in brackets [] researchers's extraction number, ifapplicable;
page, line or entry number; name and address where record was found; dateof
search, researcher and comments. Note: Each field following the !TAG:is
followed by a semi-colon, even ifempty.

CHRISTENING: We have searched our extractions for St. MaryLowgate,
Sculcoates and Hull Holy Trinity (and all other Hull smaller churchesand
there are no Thomas Metcalfs born in a logical time frame nor inthe
surrounding parishes. A likely birth for his father appears in 1764in
Cottingham but his own christening doesn't, nor in any of thenearby
surrounding parishes. Further analysis needs to be done of theextractions.
In George Tate's notes on this family there is a reference about a Thomasborn
to a Betty Metcalf (who supposedly never married) in Holy Trinity - nodate is
given- that does not show in the extractions. This will be doublechecked on
microfilm to see if it was somehowmissed.

MARRIAGE: Sculcoates Marriage Records; 1804-1810; PE46/19[23]; No.42,pg274;
East Riding County Record Office, County Hall, Beverley, England, HU179BA; 2
July 1996, Elaine Harris/Sue Laing found this record which states:"Thomas
Metcalf bachelor of this Parish and Jane Gill spinster of this Parish,Married
in this Church by Banns This 14 Oct 1910 By me R'd Patrick vicar.This
marriage was solemnized between us: Thomas Metcalf and Jane Gill (x) hermark.
In the Presense of : Eliz'h Emery (x) her mark and John Robinson."Certified
copy in possession of the researchers.

OCCUPATION: On son George Thomas's christening Thomas's craft is notedas
cordwainer. It is interesting that this is the same profession as thatof his
father-in-law, John Gill. Perhaps it was through his craft he came tomeet
Jane. He may even have been apprenticed to his future father-in-law. Ifso
his apprenticeship must have been informal as it does not appear in theHull
Freeman Registers.

DEATH-BURIAL: Holy Trinity, Hull Burial Register; PE158/81[20]; No.1079;
East Riding Archive Office, County Hall, Beverley, England, HU17 9BA; 24Jun
1996, Elaine Harris/Sue Laing located this burial record for ThomasMetcalf of
Myton buried 2 Oct 1836, age 50. If accurate, this age says Thomas wasborn
in 1786. His son John Edward would have been married for 4 yeras whenhis
father died.

29. Jane Gill

LEGEND: All source notes are arranged in the same order, using sevenfields:

CHRISTENING: St. Mary Lowgate, Hll Parish Records; 1766-1793;PE185/5[27];;
East Riding Archive Office, County Hall, Beverley, England, HU17 9BA; 17Jun
1996, Elaine Harris/Sue Laing found the fololowing baptism entry: "12 Oct1790
Jane, D. Of John Gill Cordwainer by Ann his wife." Jane's marriagerecord
indicates that she was from the parish of Sculcoates. No baptism for aJane
Gill within a logical time span appears in Sculcoates or Holy Trinity.This
Jane is the only Jane Gill fond in the Hull area. (Heretofore thefamily
record stated that Jane Gill's parents were Mary Laverack and Joseph Gellof
Escrick, York, England, but on 4 July 1996 Sue/John Laing, using theoriginal
Escrick parish record ESC/4[12 and 26] at Borthwick Institute, YorkEngland,
St. Anthony's Hall, Peasholme, York, England, YP1 2PW. found that Jane'sbirth
and christening as follows "Jane, Daughter of Joseph Gell, Carpenter byMary
his wife, July 11th, bapt'd 12th 1790," but then found this child's deathin
that same register as follows: "Jane, Daughter of Joseph Gell, carpenter,died
Jan'ry 4th, buried 6th, 17091, in the churchyard, 1/2 year old." Thesesame
parents had no other daughter named Jane in subsequent years, (as isoften
customary when children die in infancy). The next child was namedElisabeth
born to these parents on 11 Jul 1791 (Christened on 20 Jul 1791 in thissame
parish) This couple had no other children in this parish. The only waythese
could be her parents is if they immediately relocated to another parishand
immediately had another child which they named Jane, or a second Janewould
have been too young to marry in 1810.)

MARRIAGE: Sculcoates Marriage Records; 1804-1810; PE46/19[23]; No.42,pg274;

DEATH-BURIAL: Holy Trinity, Hull Burial Register; PE158/79[14]; No.3287;East
Riding Archive Office, County Hall, Beverley, England, HU17 9BA; 18 Jun1996,
Elaine Harris/Sue Laing located this burial record for Jane Metcalf ofHull
buried 16 May 1824, age 32." It is likely this is our Jane Gill,although the
age at death is off by two years as she was born in 1790. Theresearchers did
not find any other entries for a burial in Hull parishes for anotherJane
Metcalf. This family seemed to be consistently in Myton and HolyTrinity
records ever since their marriage in Sculcoates.

[Ben's note: This Robert Nelson may have been Ann's brother or herfather.]
Our research didn't locate a direct connection with this family as yet,but
Robert may well have been a cousin.
