Christensen, Lars M. C., farmer and freighter, son of Christen and Carrie,
was born in Denmark, 22 July, 1847. The family joined the Mormon Church
in 1866 and came to Utah, crossing the plains in the Abner Lowry Co. and
located in Manti. The Black Hawk War being in progress, he had to stand
guard and do his share of the work in fighting the Indians. He came to
Gunnison in 1870 and has been engaged in farming and freighting to the
mining camps. Now he has a 40 acre farm and a comfortable home in town,
and is an energetic, upright citizen. He was married in Denmark, 22 April
1966 to Elsie K. Christensen, born in Denmark 9 February 1847. They have
9 living children. Christian I. Farmer and wool grower of Gunnison; Andrew
B., teacher; Joseph A., teacher; Albert H., studying law at Ann Arbor;
Elsie K., teacher; Emma E., teacher; Louis D., Arthur and Elvina. Louis
D. volunteered at first call of troops, but the complement being filled,
was sent home.
